During the summer of 2012 in London, England, more than 10,000 of the worlds best athletes from 204 different nations gathered together to compete at the worlds stage, the Olympics.

The Olympics are the single greatest sporting event in the world.They include more athletes, more countries, more competitions, and more inspirational stories than any other sporting event in the world.

To start, the athletic competition at the Olympics is above any other sporting event. The Olympics have athletes of all different shapes, sizes, genders, races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. They all have one thing in common: they are amazing athletes. The Olympics allow all the best athletes in the world to compete on one great stage. You get to see the most raw, unbelievable athletes at the Olympics, and also get to see great teams compete for the coveted gold medal.

You get to see the fastest man in the world like Usain Bolt, or the best swimmers like Michael Phelps. Along with this raw athleticism, viewers get to see graceful sports like figure skating and gymnastics.

Viewers also get to experience many sports they have never seen before. Many Olympic events are only watched by most viewers every four years at the Olympics. The variety of events is astounding. In the summer and winter games there are many strange events such as speed walking, curling, skeleton, and synchronized diving. These are only a few of the many unique sports featured in the Olympics.

There is so much more to the Olympics than the athletics. The Olympics bring the entire world together. They allow people to learn about and understand multiple cultures. Not only do viewers get to experience the culture of the host-nation during the opening ceremony and city exploration, they also get to learn a little bit more about many other countries through the competition.

The Olympics are the ultimate display of peace. For a period of two weeks, countries serve as representatives of their nation as countries put aside their differences. The Olympic rings symbolize that even though we are all different, we are all part of the same race, the human race.

Not only are the Olympics a powerful symbol of world peace, they are the best athletic competition in the world that only come around every four years. Combined with all the fascinating human interest stories, the Olympics are the best sporting event in the world.
