The well known British boy band, One Direction, just released their fourth album within the span of three years since first forming as a band. The boy band members have been working with famous songwriters like Ed Sheeran to make this album a reality.

The three albums that were released prior to Four were Up all Night, Take Me Home and Midnight Memories. These albums were created practically overnight, and featured hit songs “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life”.

The first single released off the Four album is “Steal my Girl.”  When fans listen to the beginning of the song they will think the song has potential, but then the chorus starts and the listeners will just want to scream. The lyrics are very repetitive and basically the band members are singing about their girlfriends, and telling everyone to back off and find their own girl. If the chorus was deleted, then the song would be decent, but really, does anyone want to steal their girls?

“Night Changers” is one of the band’s better, soothing songs on the new album. The melody is lullaby-like.

Listeners will recognize that Ed Sheeran co-wrote the lighthearted song “18” on this new 1D album. The song “18” is a very slow, romantic song that I expect to be popular at Prom this year. However, the lyrics are just mediocre; the chorus does not grab the audience compared to the band’s past hit “Story of My Life.”

The overall album is what I expected. There really is not anything special on it that caught my ear, but it may catch the ear of younger teeny-bopper fans.  I wish 1D all the best because the band truly has talented members, but for the future they should be considering to feature songs that will portray as a more mature band. Lastly, I think the album title “Four” is unoriginal considering this is the band’s fourth album. Can 1D fans expect their fifth album to be titled “Five?”  Only time will tell.
