The members of the District 158 Board of Education shuffled out of a small room, located toward the back of the Administrative Board Room and one-by-one took their seats. Important issues within District 158 lie ahead of them tonight.

The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance sung by Leggee Principal Scott Iddings along with students from Leggee.

At the meeting, they discussed topics like approval of ThermoServ and Pine Valley Foods. ThermoServ, as you may recall last year, had volleyball players sell tumblers with the “HHS” logo on. They have agreed to donate all of the proceeds, an estimated $5,000, to the HHS boys basketball team. Pine Valley Foods will be selling cookie dough through the Square Barn Elementary schools.

The BOE also covered the topic of the current construction going on at the high school. Since work has started, several Proposal Requests have been generated due discrepancies discovered as demolition exposed physical plant infrastructure which new construction must work around. This means that it will cost the school more money to construct the new additions to the West Wing due to the ground being unable to build on. Lamp Incorporated, who completed the Field House during the summer and is currently working on the West Wing, have proposed a bid that the BOE gets contracts from Kane County Excavating, McKinney Steel, and Ridgeview Electric. All of this along with the costs to install heating, air conditioning, ventilation, lights, adding a “HHS” sign and others necessities to get the building up to code will cost around $32,000.

Another topic on the agenda was the Personal Report which gives the amount of money each teacher makes for participating in extracurricular activities such as sports team coaches and after school clubs.

The meeting was adjourned and the members seemed content with the progress they were able to make during the meeting.

The next meeting of the board of education takes place on Nov. 12, in the Administrative Board Room.
