HHS Hosts Dodge Cancer Fundraiser for Justin Domingo

The Dodgeball game is getting intense. Players are getting knocked out left and right. One person though, stands tall. He is the only player left.

That person is junior Eric Maurer. Mauer plays with determination, because he knows the that today’s Dodge Cancer Fundraiser is for his classmate, junior Justin Domingo.

“[Domingo] has fought so hard through fighting his cancer and he has put so much into our school playing football and he participates in the school,” said Maurer. “It’s nice to see kids come out and benefit him when he has benefited our school in the fall.”

Domingo was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and has recently completed a successful treatment, the reason for today’s fundraiser. The purpose is to raise money for Domingo so he can receive more treatment.

This fundraiser has also brought the community together. Freshman Tori Kaszuba has some insight on what community involvement means.

“ I think [community involvement] just shows that we all come together and that we’re all working towards a good cause,” said Kaszuba. “It’s really helping out one of our own at Huntley High School.”

The tournament will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m in the HHS field house. Registration is $100 for an eight- person team and according to Athletic Director at HHS, Chris Rozanski, the goal is to raise $5,000 through team participation, individual donors, and sponsor ships.

There has also been many fundraisers for Domingo and his family early this year. The first one was sponsored by the HHS Medical Club, which hosted a banquet. The proceeds went towards Domingo’s family and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. There is also a gofundme page that anyone can donate to any time (https://www.gofundme.com/8gdmzd5s).
