Meaning of Life: Freshman Jasmine Rosales

Meaning of Life: Freshman Jasmine Rosales

What’s your name?

Jazmine Rosales

Are you a twin?

No, many people make that mistake. My sister and I are 11 months apart. We are what you call Irish twins. I was born on September 1995 and my sister was born August 1996. For a certain number of days each year we are the same age.

Who do you look up to?

My mom, she had breast cancer when I was in seventh grade. I didn’t think she was going to make it but she had positive thoughts and never gave up. She is cured now and is doing well. She keeps me going and always tells me to try my best. She taught me to never give up and to always do my best at everything I do.

What is a quote you live by?

“Laughter is a strength between friends.” Laughing with friends just lifts my sprits and makes me love my friends even more.

What is your biggest fear? How did you get it?

Talking in front of people and classes and being in front of peers. I am taking a speech class to improve my speech and to overcome my fear. I am a very shy person especially with people I don’t know.

What is the scariest thing that has ever happened to you?

My first car accident in the winter when I was 6 or 7 was the scariest thing that has happened to me. My car spun on ice, I didn’t know what was happening, no one really got hurt. My mom had glass in her neck and my sister had a hurt back. I had to wait in a stranger’s car that stopped to help us until the ambulance came

What is the biggest thing that has ever happen to you?

Graduating middle school, I look back and see all of my accomplishments. I thought middle school was hard but now I think high school is harder. I was named third scholar; which is third in my class. I never thought I would get it and I don’t consider myself that smart, mostly just book smart and good work ethics.

If you could do anything differently or change anything in you life what would you do?

I would change how I talk to people. I would go back and be more confident and less shy to people, be more engaged in conversation, so I can have more friends that I am close to.

If you had one day to live what would you do and why? (no limits)

I would want to climb the Eiffel tower to get over my fear of heights. I think it would be an adventure. I was always bored and somewhat afraid of the rock climbing wall in middle school. Climbing the Eiffel tower would take it to the next level. it would also get me out of the country and see things.

What is your biggest achievement?

Staying in school and staying away from drugs. I can’t believe I am a freshman already. I don’t feel as I’ve gone through 9 years of school. School has been a important part of my life.

If you won the lottery what would you do with the money and why?

I would use the money to help out my family. Everyone is doing bad economically and could use help. I consider myself a giving person, and I want to give back to those who have always been there for me.

If you could spend a day with anyone dead or alive who would it be and what would you do?

I would spend my day with my dead grandpa on my dad’s side. He lived in the Philippines and I didn’t get to see him that much. He came to visit once but I was little and I couldn’t understand him. If  had the day with him I would get to know him better and ask him about the war he was in.

What is the most influential day of your life and why?

One night when my mom was on chemo she was throwing up very badly. I didn’t know if she was dead or alive. I never heard her so weak and sick before. I didn’t know if I should go in the room or not I was so scared. My dad took my mom to the hospital and I was in charge because my aunt was asleep and my sister was working. They didn’t come back from the hospital until early in the morning.

What is the hardest thing you had to go through in your life and how did you cope?

The hardest thing I had to go through was my mom having cancer. I had my family to help me through it. My mom had her good days and bad days. Even on her bad days she would get up and take her medicine that would make her better. Seeing this gave me hope that she would get better.

Do you have any hobbies? How did you get into them and why do you stay?

Volleyball is my biggest sports. I stop playing when the volleyball season is over. My mom started me at one camp called PCA after sixth grade because she wanted me to play on the seventh grade middle school team. I tried out for the seventh grade team and made it. Once I made the team I went from the A team to the B team and kept switching because I didn’t know the sport that well. I have been playing ever since.

If you could pick any day in life past or future what day would you choose and why?

I would want to experience the future after I died. I would want to be reincarnated to see all the advances in technology, what life is like after I am dead.

Where do you see yourself in the future?  (Goals, jobs, school)

Right now I am torn between being a pediatrician and a pharmacist. I would like to be something in the medical field. I am leaning more towards a pharmacist because I don’t like body parts. I am good with math and science just not with blood and squishy parts.

If you could be famous for anything what would it be for?

I would be famous for making a good invention. I think that inventing things is cool, but is also hard. I would want to invent something that could transport you to a time or place.

What do you want to be known for when you’re dead?

I don’t like fighting with people. Fighting with people just leads to drama. Drama is the last thing I want. I want them to think of me as a nice person. I want people to come to my funeral.

If you could be reincarnated into any animal or thing what would it be and why?

I would want to be an animal, be a butterfly, see how they live. They have sensors on their feet that sense things and they can taste that way too. They can fly around freely and a plus is they scare my brother.

What did you do on the trip to the Philippines?

We went there for Christmas and New Years. I was there for a month. It is so different than how we celebrate it in America. Our trip was the first time we spent Christmas with my dad’s side of the family. That side is so big. We stayed at family members but went to a resort during Christmas to see volcanoes that looked small when looking at them but they were bigger because they were under water. New years we stayed at a family member’s house. We stayed up all night. When it was close to midnight everyone was in the street. People were shooting off fireworks. They laid a snake fire work that went down a whole street. It was the loudest most annoying sound I have ever heard.
