Dilemma falls short of funny

Dilemma+falls+short+of+funny

It seemed almost peaceful, with the smell of the bright colored flowers, and the sound of water hitting the bight green leaves underneath the man-made water fall. Along with that sound, came laughter and excited giggles.

Curious as to what the noise was, the main character Ronny went to investigate, shocked to find Geneva, his best friend Nick’s wife, making out with a younger, more attractive man with tattoos. Shocked, he fell back, landing in a pile of wild flowers that he later learned were poisonous. He was now stuck with a dilemma; tell his best friend, or not.

The Dilemma, starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James, was about two best friends who find themselves in a sticky situation when Vince Vaughn, who plays Ronny, finds Nick’s, played by Kevin James, wife cheating on him with another man.

Directed by Ron Howard, this movie is something that you could go to any movie theatre to find with its predictable plot and mellow dramatic characters. The Dilemma is very unoriginal and although it has sporadic and funny moments, is not something I would see again.

If you have seen a trailer for this then you would guess it to be a movie that has bantering comedy written all over it, something that is often seen in movie but never gets old.

However, that is not the case when the movie is viewed all the way through. It has more drama than expected based on the preview’s standards. Because of this extra drama, the movie is more of a romance/drama crossed with comedy, than the flat out expected comedy that has become a hit.

When Ronny sees Nick’s wife making out with another man he contemplates on what to do; tell his best friend and risk the entire project that they are working on for a major car corporation, or don’t tell his best friend and risk being accused of betrayal.

His mind is made up when Nick’s wife, Geneva, threatens to sabotage Ronny’s friendship with Nick, causing Ronny to become obsessed with stalking and trying to gain the proof he needs to show Nick that Geneva is cheating on him with a younger, more juvenile man named Rip, threatening to take down Ronny’s relationship with his girlfriend Beth in the process.

There were many characters in the movie, the Dilemma, and in order to make the scenes look realistic there needed to be background characters.

Jazmine Chartrand, a junior at Huntley High School was one of those people who played a background character in this hilarious yet sensitive movie. You may see her during the Black Hawks hockey game scene where the two couples had gone.

“From what I saw of it, it was a good movie and I had fun being in it and would do it again,” said Chartrand.

Chartrand also had an exciting incident with one of the main characters, Vince Vaughn, where she accidentally bumped into him. “I’m sorry” she had said and he replied with, “No, it was my bad.”

“He was very nice and down to Earth,” said Chartrand after she encountered Vaughn.

Overall, the movie was enjoyable but something that I would not see again, it had its moments that made me want to laugh out loud but others, such as the drama scenes, that made me want to yawn.
