The hallway was dressed up in delicate gold and yellow decorations that replicated famous monuments. The loud thumping of the bass was evident as a sea of people rushed to turn in their tickets and make their way into the gym for one of the most popular events of the school year.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, Huntley High School hosted its Parisian style Homecoming dance, which lasted from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., after a week full of festivities.

The event consisted of a photo booth, decorations that resembled the Arc de Triomphe and Eiffel Tower, concessions, and the opportunity to have professional photos taken. Students were also required to wear blue wristbands as per new rules set last year.

Student Council had been planning the dance for approximately three months after getting started in the summer. The students were in charge of choosing a theme, music, and decorations for the dance.

“The majority of it was talking to advisors to get approval, and a lot of online shopping,” Nicole Medina, vice president of Student Council, said.

The dance also featured a new DJ that was set in the front of the gym along a panel of lights while the administration found their place on a small stage in the center. The teacher chaperones then looked over the student body in case a wristband needed to be cut off due to inappropriate behavior.

After the lights were turned off, students began to loosen up and dance with their friends to the constant quick rhythm of the music. The line of heels stretching across the wall gradually became longer, signifying a successful night.

Student Council will continue to plan upcoming events such as Prom, as well as Homecoming next year.

“The goal is always to have the best Homecoming yet,” Medina said. “I’m glad that all of [Student Council] got to work together to hopefully reach that goal.”
