Huntley High School’s Jim Rolando who teaches Personal Finance, Marketing, Sports Marketing and Entrepreneurship. He has been teaching for a total of 22 years and has spent 15 years at Huntley.

I decided to teach because …

“Both of my parents were teachers, and when I was getting ready for college I felt like it was my calling,” Roland said. “After doing it for a long time I’ve realized that high school is fun and I enjoy making it fun for kids every day.”

The thing I enjoy most about teaching is …

“Variety,” Roland said. “I enjoy that every [class] hour and every day is different. Although you teach the same things, you have different students with different personalities. I like having the variety daily.”

My best teaching experience was …

“I don’t have one in particular,” Roland said. “It’s always great when former students come back. Especially when they come back and part of their story is ‘my college class is just like a class that I’ve taught them’. It’s nice knowing what I’m doing is relevant.”

The most daring thing I’ve ever done was …

“Taught in Scotland for half a summer,” Rolando said. “Daring because I had to decide in November, so it was almost a year in advance. Making a commitment far in advance was a lot of fun.”
