What to Watch Next: “Pulp Fiction”

By Alex Hartleb

The stories of two partnered hitman, a boxer, and a mob boss and his wife all intermingle with one another in Quentin Tarantino’s amazing second film “Pulp Fiction.”

The movies is split into three different parts, starting with the two hitman, Vincent Vega (played by John Travolta) and Jules Winfield (Samuel L. Jackson) being tasked with retrieving a stolen briefcase for mob boss Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames).

Later on Vega is told to take out Wallace’s wife, Mia (Uma Thurman), and entertain her while Wallace is out of town. This part starts off a little slow, with a good 10-15 minute stretch where very little happens, but then the movie takes back off again as things start to go down.

The second part of the movie focuses on the boxer Butch (Bruce Willis) who is paid off by Wallace to lose his upcoming fight, but then decides to make a daring decision that gets him into a lot of trouble. The third and final part is where the whole movie comes full circle with a great conclusion to end the film.

This movie really has it all and is personally one of my favorites. Despite being categorized as a crime and drama film, the movie is also extremely funny at parts and there is a lot of comic relief. The first and third parts is when the most of this takes place, with the second focusing on a more serious and dramatic tone.

While the movie does have its slow and rough edges at parts, it is always able to pick itself up again and keep me intrigued with all that is happening. It is one of those films where you really need to sit down and focus on the movie, since a lot is always going on. But the ending is extremely satisfying to watch as everything that has happened so far starts to piece and come together.

For anyone looking for a great movie to watch that has action, drama, and a touch of comedy, “Pulp Fiction” should definitely be your next choice as it is an amazing film. For  those who are interested, it can be found on Netflix. I hope you all really enjoy it!
