Mother Nature could no longer hold back Huntley from trumping Valley Division rival Dundee-Crown on Monday afternoon.

After the meet was postponed twice due to rain, the Red Raiders (11-4) finally took their shot at the perennial cellar-dwellers and triumphed by a score of 6-1.

“It was one I expected us to win,” Huntley coach Barry Wells said. “Everybody played pretty well.”

The Raiders fought through double-digit wind speeds to a pair of commanding wins by senior Kayla Garcia (6-3, 6-0) and junior Jessica Chalas (6-1, 3-6, 6-0) at first and second singles, respectively.  Huntley swept its doubles matches, including a close three-setter for juniors Pooja Patel and Venecia Alvarez at fourth doubles (6-1, 4-6, 6-4).

“I was proud of them,” Wells said.  “They got a little nervous in the end but they pulled together, came from behind and won.”

The rest of Huntley’s doubles teams cruised through its matches with Dundee-Crown, outscoring the Chargers 36-10.  This bounce-back victory, after a 0-7 loss to powerhouse Crystal Lake South, has Huntley looking forward toward conference and sectionals.

“We’ve got two dual-meets left this week, so we’ll take those one at a time,” Wells said.  “We’ll have four days to practice before sectionals, which is nice since we haven’t had much time to practice because of meets.”

The Raiders play at the struggling Woodstock North Thunder on Tuesday before hosting McHenry this Thursday.
