The guests walk into the dimmed gym and they see tables with sprinkled flower
pedals on top scattered around making a spot in the middle to dance. There is a freshly
stocked table with a large assortment of refreshments and snacks for the guests in the
back. In the left corner, there are two ladies capturing moments of the special night.
They were using Polaroid cameras, the one where the picture instantly comes out of the
camera. By the gym doors, there is an arts and crafts table where the guests can decorate
their precious photo. Children art covered the gym walls, and the DJ is ready to entertain
and the guests are ready to have fun in the eyes of volunteer, Christian Murillo.

The Daddy/Daughter dance is held annually at the Huntley Park District, where
daughters and fathers come to have a relaxed, fun-filled night.

The atmosphere was happy and positive by the way the guests were smiling,
dancing, and “no one felt out of place,” said volunteer, Lisa Nguyen.

The music was blasting from every corner. The songs that played
included: “Gangnam Style”, “Call Me Maybe”, “YMCA”, and numerous other top-
played songs. Not only did the guests enjoy the music, but also the volunteers danced in
the background along with them.

“We were all dancing to the music too in the back having our own little party and
people were staring,” said Murillo with a laugh.

The volunteers were students from the Community Service Club. Some included
Lisa Nguyen, Christian Murillo, Taylor Hilbrant, Katherine Hamilton, Colin Worden, and
Grace Wang. Their job was to “take out the food and snacks like cupcakes, cookies, and
soda, and put them out on the tables nicely in a large platter,” said Murillo.

Approximately 230 guests arrived to the dance and as a result it was much more
fun than last year according to Murillo. All thanks goes to David Gently from the Huntley
Park District to make the dance such a success.

Those who helped make the Daddy/Daughter Dance happen (D. Gentry).
