Making the perfect cookie crumble

After school on March 18, the baking club met in the food’s room to make Oreo balls. A large showing of kids congregated in the sitting area and sponsors Megan Wheeler and Samantha Conover prepped their demonstration.

“We try to demo before everyone” said Conover. “We meet twice a month, once to plan and the other week we meet, we bake.” Conover lined the trays with wax paper so that reduced the washing processes significantly and lead to the eating of their tasty concoction to be expedited.

To make Oreo balls you just need a box of Oreos, any type of your choosing, some cream cheese and a a melted chocolate coating. You mix the crushed Oreo and cream cheese in a blender and this creates dough like mixture that allows them to form into ball shape. The Oreo balls are then frozen for 10 minutes. Once done freezing they are taken and dipped into melted chocolate. They head back into the freezer for another 10 minutes and they are ready for consumption.

“Making Oreo balls today was just a predetermined thing, I’m not sure who actually came up with the idea,” said senior Sam Barratt, as she works on mixing her crushed Oreos and cream cheese mixture together.

Baking club just offers a relaxing ambient environment for students across the school to come to bake some tasty treats and hangout with their friends.

“My friends asked me to join so we just joined together, I’m glad I did now,” said junior Kassie Herzog.

With an initial baking fee of $15 a small group of Huntley High School students meet Monday once a month to create their next tasty treats.
