Why he won: Third time IHSA 3A boys’ golf state qualifier (placed 58), top 5 finisher in the IHSA Regional, top 10 finished in the IHSA Sectional, and a 4 year FVC All-Conference athlete.
Question: How long have you been playing golf?
Answer: “Since I was about 4 years old”
Question: What is your training like (How many days a week for how many hours)?
Answer: “Usually everyday when it gets warm in March/April to when it gets cold in late October/November. Some days I practice as little as 45 minutes, some days I’ll be at the course from sun up to sun down.”
Question: Why do you play golf?
Answer: “Because I grew up on a golf course and I was introduced to the sport at a very young age. I love the challenge it offers.”
Question: How does it feel when you place top five at a big tournament?
Answer: “It feels great. It is just one way of showing that all my practicing and preparation for a big tournament has paid off.”
Question: What is your biggest accomplishment in your sport?
Answer: “I would have to say qualifying for the state golf tournament 3 out of my 4 years of high school.”
Question: What is your biggest challenge?
Answer: “Dealing with struggles and failures that I have had with the game. Overcoming mental obstacles.”
Question: What is the best advice you have ever received?
Answer: “To just enjoy the game and have fun.”
Question: Who is your role model/hero?
Answer: “My brother. He is a great golfer and I try to model my game after him.”
Question: Were you surprised that you won athlete of the week?
Answer: “That’s a tough question to answer. There are many Huntley athletes that have a lot success from week to week. I guess I just happened to have the most success these past couple weeks.”
Question: Do you expect to play sports in college?
Answer: “Not really. I don’t plan on playing golf in college. If I do end up playing, that would be awesome.”
Question: What is your favorite course to play on and why?
Answer: “Blackstone Golf Club in Marengo, because it is challenging but a lot of fun.”
Question: What place did you get at state, and are you happy with how you did and why?
Answer: “58/112. I am not too thrilled but I was glad I got the chance to go down there. I didn’t play too well and I was hoping to improve on my finish junior year which was 27th. I still had a lot of fun but I would have liked to have played better.”
