Going into Friday night’s rivalry game at Jacobs, the Huntley boys basketball team had a one game lead on Jacobs in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division with two games left to play. Led by Senior Amanze Egekeze’s 24 points, Huntley became conference champion for the fourth straight year, with a 39-35 win against Jacobs.
In May 2012, Huntley High School varsity cheerleader Lexi Gardocki approached the Huntley Cheer Association with an idea for a new cheer team, a special needs cheer team. The board agreed to the idea and Gardocki set out to form the team.
Huntley’s varsity boys basketball team entered Friday night’s game against arch rival Jacobs undefeated and first in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division. With a win the visiting Jacobs team would take hold of first place in the conference. Huntley would not let that happen.
Huntley defeated Jacobs 48-45 in a thriller at Huntley High School. The Raiders improved to 12-4 overall, and 5-0 in FVC Valley division.
During the third quarter the Red Raiders already had a commanding lead. Senior Amanze Egekeze caught a pass in transition after a Huntley steal, took a few dribbles, and threw down a dunk. The already rowdy crowd exploded as the Huntley bench stood up in excitement. This was the highlight of an incredible night for 6-foot-8 Belmont recruit Amanze Egekeze.
