Fast paced marches and slow ballads, with a little touch of jazz poured out of the PAC Thursday, Oct. 16, as the Huntley High School bands performed at their first concert of the year.

All six bands, Jazz and Percussion Ensemble, both Wind Ensembles and Concert and Symphonic band put on an exciting and emotional performance with smooth legatos, sharp staccatos and magnificent marcatos. “It was a great first concert of the year and the students put in a lot of hard work to make it happen.” said Band Director Rick Rohde.

Each of the bands performed selections of marches, slow tunes, and for the Jazz Band, songs with a funky swing tempo.

“All the bands performed their best and produced amazing music.” said freshman Emily Vera who played in the Wind Ensemble B.

The Wind Ensemble A performed the longest tune of the night, English Folk Song Suite, consisting of three movements, all containing different tempos, key signatures and style that worked together to form a beautiful piece.

The Huntley Marching Red Raiders took the stage to perform their show Illusions after all the other bands had performed. The Marching Red Raiders’ performance was both musically stimulating and dynamic.

There were no visual aspects incorporated in the performance but the Marching Red Raiders made up for the lack of it by exceeding expectations musically.
