Blog: Beyonce’s latest single dissappoints

Beyoncé is globally the queen of R&B alongside greats like Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carrey, and Alicia Keys, but with her new song, “Bow Down (I Been On),” she’s not acting like she is. This song is way out of the element of her signature style of musical greatness and genius and downgrades it.

Beyoncé has spent her entire career building up to what she is now, and with this new song, it seems like it is starting to crash down. This may be an exaggeration, but if you hear the song, you will understand that this type of music needs to be left with Rihanna.

The trap beat itself is overused, and her strong voice on top of it does not fit well. Hearing the lyrics, they are very egotistical and that everyone wants to live her life and they should just bow down. In one lyric she says, “I’m bigger than life, my name in the lights/ I’m the number one chick, ain’t need no hype/The capital b means, I’m ‘bout that life/ The capital b means, I’m ‘bout that life.” Really Beyoncé? This is not her at all to use profanity and express apparent hierarchy in her music.

In her other hit, “Run the World (Girls)”, she sings about women’s empowerment, but now she is telling everyone to bow down to her, which is highly hypocritical. This is the type of song that every unoriginal, modern hip hop and/or rap artist is doing in their music careers. They are basically telling everyone that they are better when in reality, most are not.

The second half of the song threw everything off completely. The type of song/beat change is meant for only 10-15 seconds of any normal son, but in this one, it lasts more than a minute and its gets rather boring, and is filled with shout outs that disrupt the flow of this already abysmal song.

The only good aspect of this song is that she shouts out to her home city, Houston, which is the only relevant shout out. Stick to your brand-name style Beyoncé, that is what got you famous.
