District 158’s Board of Education conducted a regularly scheduled meeting on Feb. 23. President Donald Drzal headed the Thursday meeting and all board members were in attendance.

Five eighth grade students from Marlowe Middle School’s theater department lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and after which Drzal began the session.

The board recognized the Huntley High School Varsity Dance Team for their second place victory at state.

“We couldn’t have done it without head Coach Chrissy Amling, team captain Lauren Apa, or even missing just one of these girls, they are a solid group of dancers and we are so proud to represent our school,” said JV dance coach Kristin Maggiore.

After the dance team’s recognition, the Fox Valley Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recognized Huntley High School senior Madeline Moffett for her essay in the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest.

“Madeline Moffett was presented the DAR good citizen award for her continued dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Madeline is our chapter and districts state finalist for the annual Illinois DAR Conference,” said a representative from the local chapter.

Following, the board of education voted on various revisions and policy proposals.

The board voted yes to a requested Huntley High School international field trip to China in June of 2018.

The board also voted to increase the cost of summer school courses from $100 to $125. The board believes that due to increasing enrollment and other adjustments, an increase in cost is necessary for summer school to be cost neutral.

Finally, Chief Financial Officer Mark Altmayer proposed a five year plan for 2018 fiscal year budget draft. After meeting with representatives in Springfield, Altmayer’s budget proposal hopes to protect the district in case of potential funding reform from the state of Illinois.

The board voted yes for Altmayer to present the five-year plan at a later meeting when more information is received from the state.

When all proposals were finished, Drzal called the meeting to a close.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
