Song of the Week: Hero

By Courtney Thomas
January 22, 2015
The song “Hero” by Family of the Year is a song that kind of just fell into my lap. While struggling to find a song for this week, this song came up in my YouTube feed and I watched it. I do not think I stopped smiling the whole song. I had never heard the song before, but now, I cannot stop singing it. There are two music videos for the song and it also took some time to figure out the reason for that. The first video is the official music video (the black and white one). The song itself was released in 2012 on the album “Loma Vista” and following the release of the album was the music video. Recently, the movie “Boyhood” was released and this song was basically the theme song for the video. The second music video includes clips from the movie and is in color.

Movie Review: Paddington

[A]s I was sitting in theater nine at AMC, little kids filled the seats and I wondered why exactly I picked to watch this movie. “Paddington” is an old childrens book that was published in 1972, and now launched into a movie as of Jan. 16. Maybe the 6-year-old me, who was obsessed with similar characters such as Little Bear, would love to see it. Unfortunately, I was not interested in the story line at all.

Movie Review: American Sniper

By Tyler Lopez
January 20, 2015
[G]rowing up in America, everybody has a sense of love and pride for their country. Many say that they are patriots, and they are willing to bleed and die for their country. But for Chris Kyle saying that was never enough. “American Sniper” is a true story about Chris Kyle’s life and his dedication to America and the Navy SEALs. Directed by legendary actor and director, Clint Eastwood, American Sniper shows the grittiness of war and how difficult home really is. Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) has always felt a burning love for his country. He had always stood for what was right and provided an example others could follow.

Movie Review: Taken 3

By Joe Rizzo

Taken 3 is an action packed movie that I think I already saw three times. Simply put, I believe Taken 3 was a repeat of the other two Taken Movies. In the first movie of the trilogy, the main character Brian Mills is played by Liam Neeson. Mills daughter is kidnapped by an Albanian gang of human traffickers. Mills goes to Paris to rescue his daughter and promises to find and kill whoever took his daughter. Taken had received positive reviews and some say one of the best action films of the year. This was a great start to what could have been even better series.

Song of the Week: Thinking Out Loud

By Courtney Thomas
January 12, 2015
Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” was released Aug. 24, 2014 on his album “X”. The first time I heard this song, I pictured a couple’s first dance at their wedding. The music video, which was released in Oct., reached over 2 million views on YouTube in the first 16 hours it had been out. The music video is Sheeran and dancer, Brittany Cherry, dancing alone in a huge ballroom. The dancing itself was flawless and so well put together to go to every beat of the song. I cannot stop singing this song out loud, and I know you will do the same if you listen to the song as well.

Album Review: Catfish and the Bottlemen

[I]t’s not like it’s something we haven’t seen before. Four British lads with shaggy hair and raspy vocals wailing angsty, lovelorn verses over garage rock instrumentals. But how long has it been since we’ve seen it? It seems that the reign of indie rock bands such as The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, and The Killers, has long been overthrown by the rise of trap and dubstep music.

'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' is the gem of comedy. It follows twins Dennis and Dee, their 'father' Frank, and their friends Mac and Charlie as they run their bar Paddy's Pub, plot to scam others out of money, and go on other outrageous adventures.

Song of the Week: “Dominick the Donkey”

By Courtney Thomas
December 15, 2014
[S]ong “Dominick the Donkey” by Ray Allen, Sam Saltzberg and Wandra Merrell, was released in 1960. It is an Italian song about a donkey who helps Santa bring toys to all the Italian children. The song reached number 14 on Billboard's Bubbling under the Hot 100 in December of 1960. It is a hilarious song with a very catchy song that will have you whistling the tune all day long.
