Falling head-over-heels for fast fashion

Everyone loves a good statement piece. But whether it be a chunky necklace or a black bomber jacket, some items are only trending for a short period of time.

When it comes to trending items that will soon go out of style, so-called “fast fashion” stores are the way to go. Retailers like Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, Fashion Nova, and Discovery are all examples of fast and inexpensive fashion.

These stores use the latest catwalk designs and produce clothing to capitalize on current styles.

The thing that really sells these stores is the affordability. A simple shirt can cost less than $5, and a dress, depending on the style, is usually under $20.

“I bought a pair of Fashion Nova jeans, and I’m excited to try them,” senior Zoe Zuzzio said. “Jeans never fit my hips, and they’re supposed to be made to actually fit.”

At all of these stores, you can find items to wear for one season, like a printed top that will be out of fashion in an year, and you can find solid-colored basics to layer with other pieces already in your wardrobe.

Purchases that I have personally made are a black bodycon dress from Boo Hoo for only $12, and it was a great investment. It can be paired with any jacket, and I can dress it up or down depending on the occasion.

Also, Charlotte Russe has extremely cute dresses and sales regularly. I own a lace up floral dress from their Algonquin location that only cost $20.

Discovery, also with a location at Algonquin Commons, is a good place to good if you are looking for clothes for a night out. I recently went in for the first time and found a pair of striped, wide-legged pants for only $12 and a burgundy jumpsuit that cost $16.

“I prefer places like Old Navy, but if I’m looking for accessories or cheap things to wear once or twice, I’ll stop in Forever 21,” senior Brooke Wold said.

While there are questions about the ethics of the methods these stores use, if you are looking for a certain piece that will not be in style long, check out one of these stores.
