The orientation for next year’s freshmen class took place on April 28 at Huntley. The orientation for freshman with last names A-L went from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The one for freshman M-Z went from 7-8:30.

According to freshmen counselor Karen Miller this incoming class of freshmen will have over 800 students, making it the biggest class thus far.

The orientation started in the gym where staff explained what freshmen can expect from their time here at Huntley. Afterwards, the future students and their families can attend the activities fair taking place in the gym, which is split up into clubs and athletics.

“[Sports are included in the fair because] we want to make them acknowledgable of all the opportunities that are available to them while they’re attending Huntley High School,” said athletic director Chris Rosanski.

Extra curricular activities are also covered in the fair and discussed during the course planning night.

There were also two break-out sessions available, one specifically designed for first-time freshman parent and the other is entitled Freshmen 101.

“The [session] for the freshman parent is really unique because we have four teachers speaking at it, one from each core subject area,” said Miller. “They will really talk about what is expected in English, in math, in science, in Social Studies.”

Typically, the teachers chosen to speak solely teach freshmen so the incoming students will have a better feel for who they will be taught by in the next few months.

Freshmen orientation was a good way to introduce freshmen to the experience they’ll have at their new high school and integrate them into the ways of Huntley.
