The Huntley beat the Crystal Lake South Gators in a down to the wire score of 20-19 Friday night, a preview of what to come for Homecoming.

The first quarter started out rough with South scoring the first five minutes.

“We as a team knew that this particular game was going to be hard.” said assistant coach Joel Bosman. “We are never perfect, but we will never give up.”

The second quarter started with South in control of the ball. Taking the ball to their end zone and kicking it in for a field goal, adding three more points to their leading score. Once the ball was in the offensive lines hands Huntley’s wide receiver John Walker brought hope to the Raiders gaining some ground. Huntley fans were riled even more when running back Jake Scalise gained a first down.

At the end of the first half Huntley’s quarterback Kameron Sallee threw a bullet to wide receiver Jake Lackovic to seal Huntley’s first touchdown of the night, ending the second quarter 6-10.

The third quarter began like the second quarter with the Gators grabbing hold of yet another field goal. The ball was then in the Raiders hands, quarterback Kameron Sallee did not let that go to waste. He trailed down the field for a first down. Huntley’s ball carrier Bryce Beschorner then pulled the team closer to their end zone with defensive back Garrick McDaniel closing the gap for a Huntley Touchdown. They then sealed the touchdown with a field goal that was good gaining an extra point.

The game was tied until South’s Zevin Clark trailed down the field for a touchdown, ending the third quarter 13-19.  Entering the Fourth quarter of the night Huntley’s wide receiver Bryce Beschorner took the ball and ran it into their end zone for a touchdown and the team brought it home with a field goal adding an additional point to the Raiders score.

With three minutes remaining, the Raiders game was in the hands of the defensive line to hold off the Gators and seal their win.

“The Raiders are learning to be a family, to trust each other when it really matters,” said Bosman

Huntley will play Dundee-Crown at home next week for Homecoming.
