Huntley’s girls cross country team finished their season with their muddiest meet of the year. The team not only had to doge mental barriers, but physical ones too. The Fox Valley Conference course was covered in mud from previous days of rain.

The Raiders put up a fight in the rainy conditions and finished in conference with a fourth place title.

In the conference meet, the girls found themselves chasing Jacobs High School.  Later at regionals, they were only three points behind them, and finally at sectionals, the Raiders passed them by miles.

“I love looking at the progress that we made throughout the season,” senior Brooke Cirenza said. “I just proves that we worked hard enough to pass them up.”

The 2017 season concluded not only with the feeling of successfully taking down Jacobs, but also with uniting new cheers that the girls added to the long list of traditions that will be carried on for years to come.

“Varsity improved greatly throughout the postseason,”senior Chloe Smith said. “There were also a lot of freshmen worth mentioning who stepped up and took on a varsity or JV.”

According to Smith, her teammates of Grace Allen and Annie Mitchell took it upon themselves to step up early in the season to make varsity and compete at a more advanced level.

“Overall all of the girls worked hard through the ups and downs that they faced during the season,” Cirenza said. “And we ended defeating Jacobs which made us all proud.”
