On Wednesday, Sept. 30, parents and students of all ages took advantage of the fall weather while watching the annual Homecoming Parade.

The parade, which lasted from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., started in Ol’ Timers Park and ended at Ruth Road.  

Nine clubs and 14 sports walked in the parade.

Parade Chairs, Nic Reese and Karen Miller, have been planning the parade since the beginning of the school year.

Since the parade is a Student Council run event, Miller was put in charge of organizing the event. This is her first year as Co-Chair of the parade.

“First, we sent a letter to the Village of Huntley, which later sent it to the Chamber of Commerce, asking them if they wanted to be in the parade,” said Miller, “After that I met with the village, police and the public works and we planned out our route and figured out our plan.”

After establishing a plan, all that was left was determining a lineup and making sure all the participants knew where to go.

This year, HHS students were joined by the Huntley police, fire department, and public works in an effort to express their excitement about Homecoming.

“We wanted to make sure that not only the high school sports and organizations had an opportunity to participate, but also the community,” said Miller.

The students also showed off their Huntley pride by wearing spirit wear and handing out candy to the attendees.

“It was my first year walking in the parade,” said Angela Zaleski, SnowRaiders club sponsor, “It really was a great experience for the kids, and I hope we’ll have the opportunity to walk again next year.”

As the Homecoming Parade came to a close, participants assisted in the taking down of car signs and other decorations.

“Overall, I think the parade went really well,” said Miller, “hopefully we can continue to find more ways to involve the community in our events.”
