Huntley’s offensive prowess proves to be too much for Grayslake Central

With star pitcher Eric Luecht starting on the mound for Huntley, one would think the Red Raiders’ pitching would be the factor to overcome conference opponent Grayslake Central.  However, Huntley’s offensive dominance was the reason the Red Raiders took a 12-0 victory over the Rams.

Shortstop Bryce Only led Huntley’s offensive effort with three doubles, all of which were near-home runs, and four RBIs.  Along with Only’s contributions, the Red Raiders had four other extra-base hits and eight other runs.

Luecht threw five innings and gave up no runs.  His shutout allowed Huntley to finish the game in only five innings.

“Eric Luecht changed speeds very well today,” said Huntley coach Andy Jakubowski.  “He did a really nice job for us today.”

Huntley’s victory over Grayslake Central gives the Red Raiders eight straight wins in a row.  The team has outscored their opponents 83-22.  Huntley baseball has indisputably had a successful start to the season and if the team keeps playing the way it is, may have a shot at a postseason run.  Jakubowski thinks the team’s fate lies in its own hands.

“We’re getting good pitching and good defense,” said Jakubowski.  “If we come to play each and every day, the only people that can really hurt us is ourselves.”

Only time will tell how successful Huntley baseball will become.

The Red Raiders’ next game will be Tuesday at Hampshire.
