Dave Johnson, Principal will send this letter to parents over email and the Honeywell Instant Alert system this evening:

This is Dave Johnson, principal of Huntley High School. I want to inform you that there are non-credible rumors regarding a possible gun threat to Huntley High School on Friday of this week. In the aftermath of tragedies such as the one at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Connecticut last week, rumors and copycat threats tend to emerge.  Similar rumors have already occurred in several other districts in our area.  There has also been much discussion in popular media surrounding the Mayan calendar and December 21, and it is believed that this is why this date has been mentioned in various rumors.

We have been thoroughly investigating this rumor and it has not been found to be credible.  While most often these rumors or threats do not pose any actual danger we do fully investigate and pursue these situations with our school resources officer.  However, as a precautionary measure we will have increased police presence at school throughout the week. Our intent is not to heighten any anxiety. The opposite is true. I want to assure you that our normal school schedule will continue and we do not believe there is any danger.  We are fully aware of the rumor, we continue to investigate it, and we are taking precautions for our students’ continued safety.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to me or a member of our administrative team.
