Staying home while sick is more productive than going to school.

December is the beginning of many things, snow: temperature, but most of all, getting sick. When you’re sick, it’s simple: stay home. It’s as easy as that. Or don’t get sick.

Germs are not big enough to be seen but they can spread. In order for Huntley to remain germless every spot would have to be sanitized every day. This is totally unrealistic. The only way for Huntley to remain clean would be for sick students to stay home.

The school cannot possibly keep everyone healthy, despite the amount of fruit and veggies they offer at lunch. So, it should fall upon the students to stay home and not spread their germs.

The students prevent getting sick by washing their hands more. It’s flu season, be aware of what you touch. Don’t touch a doorknob and proceed to touch your face. That is asking to get sick.

A lot of people come to school sick because they can’t miss school, but the rest of the school can’t afford to catch your cold. Huntley has athletes, students, and people who have jobs, all of whom can’t afford to get sick. So the solution should be to stay home.

When you are sick and at school you’re more focused on the fact that you’re coughing and sneezing than learning. You will just be miserable. Very few teachers provide Kleenex for students. Why should they waste their money on Kleenex for your cold?

“Every day on average I see around 10 students that are suffering from a cold” said English teacher  Wills “It is not fair to everyone else at school to come sick.”

It is simple: stay home.

Senior Gabby Miller has been sick for 27 days of the year so far.

“I have been sick a lot and I learned that staying home is the fastest way to get better” said Miller. “When you sleep, your body fights to get yourself better and you can’t sleep at school. Well, you can, but that won’t do much for you. I am not saying that staying home won’t get you behind in school because it will but you don’t pay attention at school when you are sick so it is more beneficial to stay home.”

She is right. According to the Department of Health, the cold gets passed on by coughing, sneezing, and talking. So by staying home you get yourself healthier and keep others healthy.

Stay home or don’t get sick.
