Huntley High School’s Student Council hosted their fourth annual drive-in movie on May 15. In past years, they showed  “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Forrest Gump.” This year, students lined up their cars to watch the hit movie, “Grease.”

Many students are excited about the movie choice this year. “It is one of my favorite movies,” said senior Darby D’Andrea.

She also came to watch “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” her sophomore year.

The idea to host drive-in movies came from the DJ the school uses at the Homecoming and Prom dances. “As part of his DJ company, he does these mobile drive-ins and he suggested it to us,” said Tom Kempf, Student Council sponsor.

According to Kempf, there was about 110 cars the first year they had the drive-in, but the number dropped to about 80 the following year. Kempf believes the weather is a big factor in the amount of students that come to the drive-in.

Students also brought coolers full of food to eat during the movie. Many brought sweets, such as cookies and candy, to eat. They also packed their cars full of blankets and pillows to lounge on during the movie.

Despite the low turnout last year, the drive-in movies have proved to be a success for the student council. It is something that they plan to keep doing in the upcoming years.
