“Transcendence” fails to rise above a clunky plot

By Holly Baldacci
April 19, 2014
To me, the most successful sci-fi focuses on concepts just out of our reach and plays them off as plausible. “Transcendence” starts out with this promise, but as the minutes tick by, the plot only grows more ridiculous, and the concepts become almost magical as opposed to scientific and technological.

For the next few days in the Performing Arts Center, a replica of Shrek’s swampy home-sweet-home will lurk at the left of Huntley High School’s stage, and Princess Fiona’s childhood tower will perch on the right. The stage is set for the Thursday premiere of “Shrek the Musical,” this year’s all-school musical directed by Nancy Cross, Tom George, and Michelle Sopchyk.

The jokes and the laughter just kept on coming the night of March 13 in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets were paid for and seats were filled as Mr. HHS took away the night. Contestants performed, showed off their body, and proved themselves worthy for the Mr. HHS title, but there could be only one winner.

By Holly Baldacci

In a world of constant hustle and bustle, it can be hard to slow down and really appreciate the people around you. During the post game handshakes after Rockford Jefferson's win over Rockford East in the regional semifinals, a fight broke out. Players and fans came to blows as the tension between the two teams boiled over. The IHSA handed down swift punishment on the Rockford Jefferson players involved in the fight, suspending three starters, two bench players and Jefferson's head coach for the game against Huntley. A depleted Rockford Jefferson squad was outclassed by Huntley in every way falling 77-29 in a game that was never even close.

Last Start Live strums through the intercom

Yet, there is something different about today’s late start. The sound of a heavy bass, rapid guitar strumming, and piercing vocals, fill the hallways of Huntley High, along with the familiar hum of multiple conversations.
