Whether you are looking for a romantic comedy or a classic, “Ten Things I Hate About You” will serve your needs.

“Ten Things I Hate About You” is a modernization of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.” It came out in 1999 and it became a huge success for its leading actors.

Heath Ledger, who plays Patrick Verona, is no joker in this movie. Ledger portrays an outsider and a rebellious teen, surrounded by rumors. Julie Stiles plays Katarina Stratford, a feminist against popularity. The two actors beautifully create a unique bond, heightening the experiencing of the movie. All though, Ledger’s intriguing Australian accent could be its own movie.

The movie revolves around two sisters who are literally pole opposites. Bianca Stratford, “miss popular” played by Larisa Oleynik, struggles having to follow her strict, single father’s rules. Katarina, the oldest sister, cares less about her appearance and is proud of her antisocial ways.

Viewers fall in love with the characters as the story unfolds between Patrick and Katarina. It leaves males wanting a girl who’s “different” and it inspires day-dreaming about long-haired bad boys.

All though, Ledger and Stiles carry the movie with their acting chops, the comedic flair in the movie distracts the audience from some of the actors’ lacking performance. This minor problem, however, should not stop you from watching this movie.

This is one of the best films of all time and Heath Ledger has everything to do with that. Just kidding. There are other reasons too. But let us be real, Heath Ledger is a huge part of those reasons.

Basically, if you want a good laugh and a timeless movie like “Mean Girls” or “She’s the Man”, “Ten Things I Hate About You” is the movie to choose! Hey, you can even watch it on  YouTube!
