Sleep on the Floor” was released by The Lumineers on Nov. 16, 2016, as the fourth single from their second album, “Cleopatra.” The first time I heard “Sleep on the Floor,” I was in love. To me, the song was saying, if you want to do it, do it. Life is too short to be stuck in one place. You can live sleeping on the floor as long as you’re sleeping next to someone you love. It is easily my favorite song by The Lumineers, and trust me, they have a lot of great ones. The music video for the song is one of the better music videos I have ever seen as well. It, rather than just shows a video that really makes no sense in the context of the song, shows a story. The music video opens on a girl, who is heartbroken at a funeral. People are apologizing to her for her loss, when she finally decides to leave with her boyfriend, and like the song says, they leave the small town. The music video follows them around as they drive across the country staying in random homes and apartments, brushing their teeth with their fingers. They get out of their car on country roads and run around and have little adventures throughout their road trip too. This music video inspires, and shows you that it is not easy to live on nothing. It tests you and your relationship, but if it is something that you truly want to do, the only person stopping you is yourself. Watch the video below and try not to shed a single tear, because I know I would be lying if I said I didn’t.
