“Cinderella” teaches courage and kindness in a magical way

By Kat Gorospe

As several little girls shuffled out of the AMC theater in their blue dresses and toy tiaras, it brought back memories of when I dressed the same; the famous Disney tale being my favorite. On March 13, the remake of the 1950 classic Disney film, “Cinderella”, was released. Just like “Maleficent”, Walt Disney Pictures put a realistic twist in the movie, along with dazzling special effects.

Song of the week: Get lost in “Shut Up and Dance”

By Courtney Thomas
March 10, 2015
“Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon was released on Sept. 10, 2014 and a month after, was released on iTunes as a free single. The song is on Walk the Moon’s second studio album, “Talking is Hard.” The song was heavily influenced by artists of the ‘80s and the cheesiness of the music video shows it. There was a lot of swirling colors and bad green-screen production, but it did not fail to make me feel laugh. At one point in the video, the song stops and lead singer Nicholas Petricca starts dancing horribly. The music video is incredibly bad but it makes up for having funny parts and being such a contagious song.

Song of the week: “Summer of ’69” gets listeners in the mood for Summer

By Courtney Thomas
March 4, 2015
[T]he song “Summer of ‘69” by Bryan Adams fell into my hands today. I have heard the song before, but only today, when I was going through all my parent’s old cassettes, did I rediscover it. Adams released the song in June of 1985 on his fourth studio album, “Reckless.” The song reminds me of how desperately I want this bitterly cold winter to go away, and how much I want the warmth of summer. The song just makes me think of how fun the teenage years are supposed to be and how you should make the most of your free time. The video is a classic oldie, with the cliche angles and black and white to color shots. It was ranked number 50 on “The 100 Best Singles of the ‘80s” and had even higher rankings in Canada. The video has had over 33 million views since being released.

Netflix blog: What to watch over Spring Break

By Sarah Henderson
February 27, 2015
Spring break is approaching, (March 25 to 29) and for some people this means a glamorous and much-needed vacation to somewhere warm and distant. However, not everyone is so fortunate to get away and, like me, they are stuck at home wondering what they could do to pass the time. If they are even more like me they’ll immediately start binge-watching an entire show on Netflix. As a frequent binge-watcher, I have assembled a list of my top five shows to obsess over during spring break and they are the following:

Falling in Reverse released their album “Just Like You” earlier this week. This band may not be well known, but based on their consistent, unique sound, they should be a more popular name in the near future.
