Digital vs. Print is an age old argument for comic fans. For some there is no choice; they have no store to go to, which is not surprising considering the amount of comic book stores that close every year. People might think is really no difference, but there’s more than meets the eye.
There’s just something about reading a physical comic book that makes it special: the feel of it, the smell, the way the light illuminates the glossy pages. It’s something a comic fan would understand.
Another reason some readers decide to stick with print is the memorabilia and conventions. People come from all over to go to comic conventions to get their books and memorabilia signed by writers and artists. It’s also much easier to buy memorabilia from a store. Let’s just say you’re not going to get your iPad signed at Comic-Con.
We are in the digital age, and everywhere we look paper is being turned digital. Books, newspaper, comics, and even homework is becoming digital. With digital comics you can read them anywhere you want, on a computer or a tablet. Readers don’t even need to leave the house to get digital comics and let me tell you, for the stereotypical comic reader, that is a huge bonus.
What it really boils down to is personal preference. Comic book readers are a community: we stick together, and the weekly meeting at the comic book store is a chance for us to chat, share stories and get closer.
Digital comics seem like the more convenient option, and you have an entire library of comics from every era at your fingertips. Whatever medium you choose, you really can’t go wrong with comics.
