With many accomplishments last season, both the boys and girls track teams are looking forward to their upcoming season.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do as a team, because we’re basically brand new right now,” junior Dubem Anikamadu said.
The boys varsity coach, Jim Rolando, is very excited about the beginning of the season. The boys team lost about 14 seniors and the girls team lost seven.
“Every year is a significant loss because I like seeing them grow and develop as both athletes and people so it’s not just losing great athletes, it’s losing our team’s leaders too,” Rolando said.
The boys won all of their major meets including county, both indoor and outdoor sectionals, and Fox Valley Conference. Last year was the first year in a long time that the girls won county. Boys individually qualified 14 students for state and sent 20 guys who came back with state medals. The girls qualified their 4×800 meter relay team, a thrower, and a high jumper for state. Ten girls were sent, but only six competed.

“I’m looking forward to working more on hurdles because it’s my favorite event and I was really close to making to state last year,” junior runner Tyra Miller said. “This year I am the number one returning in the entire sectional for girls.”
Anikamadu has high hopes for the season ahead.
“I’m optimistic that we will do well. I believe we can do well as a team, not just individually, and need to rely on each other more to be more successful this season.”
