There are people who want to be able to do it all, people who think they can do it all, and people who can do it all. Junior Zayyan Faizal is one of those people who does do it all.
Being involved in National Honor Society, Engineering Club, the Principal’s Advisory Council, a member of the JV boys lacrosse team, and president of Future Business Leaders of America puts a lot on his plate, still he manages to find time for it all.
For most of these activities, Faizal joined on a whim. Little did he know each activity would make a huge impact on his high school career.
“I have an interest in those activities,” Faizal said. “I thought that they’d be beneficial for me in the future or just a good experience in general.”
Not only has being involved impacted him personally, but he has also received and been recognized for awards too. Just recently Faizal was elected as Illinois reporter for FBLA and was also awarded the Future Business Achievement award.
Faizal and the FBLA team will be traveling to California soon to compete in their state events as well.
As all high schoolers know, being involved is very time consuming and especially when trying to juggle multiple clubs and activities. Not to mention family, friends, school, a social life, and even time to sleep can be a pain in the butt to get in too.
So when Faizal joined these activities, he was well aware of all that these responsibilities entailed.
“My expectations were to enrich my experience in those areas and especially for FBLA since we travel a lot it has created good communication skills,” Faizal said.
The learning aspect of being as involved as Faizal is, is an adjustment for some at first too. Many changes and personal characteristics come with holding such a high position similar to his president of FBLA position.
“I’ve been able to broaden my horizons on more than just the academic part of school,” Faizal said. “Through these activities I’ve been able to learn about leadership and other things such as working with others. FBLA, Engineering club, and lacrosse all involve working with a team.”
For some people this is no problem, but for Faizal it didn’t come easy. Having to learn to balance this all took time and a few years of being involved to kick these lessons into gear.
“I balance it all with planning,” Faizal said. “I’ve learned that planning things ahead of time really makes an impact on my productivity and how much I get done daily.”
