Song of the Week
September 24, 2017
Chicago’s own Twin Peaks, who formed in 2009, released two singles in early September, one being “Fat Chance.” A series of nostalgic verses regarding the leaving behind of their parents’ home. Perfectly appropriate, this song has to do with the last bit of summer where we transition into fall, which brings a lot of change. Lyrics like,” watching the turning of the leaves/Oh I’m free,” really captures the setting of the feeling. Leaving behind something so familiar is a feeling many can relate to, making this song personal but at the same time not invasive. This song brings a warm, almost melancholy but still mellow and relaxed vibe with vocals by Cadien Lake James who is only accompanied by an acoustic guitar. The fuzzy vocals give this song the perfect amount of informality. A lovely juxtaposition to past songs like “Making Breakfast” off the album “Wild Onion”. You can watch them live in late December in Thalia Hall, Chicago.
