On the morning of Nov. 9, as the crisp autumn air begins to settle in, the local indoor farmers‘ market opens its doors to anyone in the area. As one steps inside, the air is filled with all kinds of scents, ranging from spices, baked goods, and even dogs.
There are many vendors to shop at, it is almost too hard to choose which one to explore. One of the most noticeable tables is filled with sensory toys and colorful hair clips.
Nicole Alosio, a talented artist who creates a wide range of handmade items, has been a vibrant addition to the farmers’ market for the past few months.
“My passion always was working with children and also decorating items, so I combined both of those and created [my] business,” Alosio said.
Besides this event being inclusive to all ages, it is also a hot spot for lovers of pastries and baked goods.
Sarah Cobler, a passionate baker, stumbled upon her love for making sourdough bread after buying a store-bought loaf that would stay fresh even after she forgot about it for months.
“I thought I could do it better, so I wanted to make food that was still delicious but had simple, clean ingredients,” Cobler said.
Cobler is not the only one. Many vendors at the farmers’ market aim to keep their food unprocessed and fresh.
The first thing people are greeted with when they walk through the door is a cage full of rambunctious puppies. Bark of an Angel, a local dog rescue, is often invited to the local farmers’ market to get people to consider adoption.
“We decided to start our own rescue after we pursued getting this very bad one shut down, thankfully we were effective and we’ve been in business for six years with just shy of 700 dogs now,” co-owner Raymond Sugel said.
This past summer, many dogs have found their forever homes just by being a part of these events.
Overall, the indoor farmers’ market in Huntley offers an exciting and new experience for anyone in the community. It continues to bring together an interesting mix of local vendors and shoppers, creating a fun place for everyone to enjoy.
