BZZZZ, the timer runs out on the scoreboard on the gym wall.
The noise echoes throughout the chilly gym. Driving, shooting, and defending, players on both teams had been going full out all evening. Everybody collectively looks up at the scoreboard, the score was final. Huntley had won.
Players were ecstatic at the results of their first game of the year.
“It’s always good to win,” sophomore Ryan Obrochta said. “It’s good to win a home opener.”
During the first quarter, Cary Grove and Huntley were neck and neck. However, when the second quarter started, Huntley took the definitive lead.
Although the game went on for over an hour, Huntley never lost any of their vitality.
“I thought our energy and effort was really good,” said Coach Chris Heward. “I love the extra passes we made on the court today.”
However, Huntley was not without any flaws.
“I thought we could have done a little bit better at rebounding,” Heward said. “We could have cleaned a few turnover things up, but overall we shared the ball really well and handled Cary Grove’s pressure.”
Family and loved ones who came to see the team play were excited as well.
“I love watching these boys play together,” Michelle Obrochta, Ryan’s mom said. “They play so well as a team. I can’t wait to see what they do next.”
Huntley worked together as a team to win this game. While taking home losses from Cary Grove last year, Huntley managed to work hard to overcome that loss. Cary Grove was by no means an easy team to defeat, but with the right amount of communication and cooperation, Huntley was able to take home the victory.
