There is nothing like sitting in class, waiting to play in the game right after school. Today’s matchup was game two of the conference series against Crystal Lake Central.
We beat them the night before 13-10, so this gave us the opportunity to sweep the series.
Unfortunately, today, during the game, there would be a constant drizzle. For a catcher, this isn’t good because the dirt turns to mud and the mud clings to everything.
At the start of the game, we came out hot. Today, we jumped out of the gates right away and put up a handful of runs. This was a great start that we just needed to build on to win.
Central was able to rally back and score a few to bring the score to 4-3. From my perspective, it was going to be a tight game throughout, and we were ready to battle in the rain.
After the inning, the umpires met up and decided that the field was unplayable and we would need to resume the game in two days. So there it was. We were up a run with only a few innings of play left, but we had a layover.
As a team, we knew we had to come out with energy in order to put the 2024 state champs away early. After the two-day layover, our bats were hot. We came out and within 3 innings we scored 9 runs. This wasn’t even the best part, though.
Our pitchers commanded the ball well and gave us a shutout. We rallied to 13 and were up 10 runs. In high school baseball, when you are up 10, it is a slaughter, and the game ends after the completion of the inning.
Therefore, we won commandingly and moved to 2-0 in the conference. This sets the table and gets us ready for the long conference season, where we hopefully win and have eight straight conference titles.
