It was nearly a year ago that Conley Elementary art teacher Jill Adams was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.
With many in the community quick to laud her frequent involvement in both school and local events, they decided that it was time to give back.
In the early month of May, a fundraiser was held for Adams at Buffalo Wild Wings by the Square Barn Campus PTA to help raise money to assist with Adams’ treatment costs. 15 percent of both dine-in and carry-out proceeds will be donated directly to Adams.
Flyers were sent home with students in the district’s elementary schools, and the event saw a significant turnout on Thursday night with many former students attending.
Sophomore Emily Litwin was one such former student who attended with her family.
“It was really great to see Ms. Adams and catch up with her,” said Litwin. “She was really cheerful and the energy was great.”
Karen Filpi, president of the Square Barn Campus PTA, was very supportive of the event and expressed her gratitude in a letter sent to the Huntley Patch earlier this week.
“Jill is and always has been a loving, caring, giving person,” said in the letter. “She has touched the lives of every student that has gone through Conley Elementary.”
