Cher Lloyd released her first album, “Sticks & Stones” on Oct. 2 ,and she has definitely set the bar high for any artist. She competed alongside the famous boyband, One Direction during the 7th season of The X Factor UK, and came in 4th place.
For those who aren’t familiar with Lloyd and her music, she is a cross between Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry. The 19-year-old’s music does a good job of covering multiple genres like Pop and Rap. The fun, energetic feel could please teenagers from the ages 15 and over.
Unfortunately the album has only ten tracks, while some fans were hoping for 14 or 16. However, it was a smart move for the producers to put some different songs on the US album since the UK version came out almost a year ago.
What makes Lloyd’s music unique is that each song sounds completely different from one another. Her hit single,“Want U Back” is very upbeat and it is something you can jam out to, while “Beautiful People” is more of a slower ballad.
You can tell she worked hard on making her first album special, but it would have been nice to not have to wait almost a whole year to buy the physical CD. The songs are catchy and fun to listen to, but they do not sound very personal. Most of the lyrics talk about break ups and friendship. She is a very unique artist and I believe that she has so much more to tell about her life. However, her song, “Behind the Music” is one of my favorites because it shows all the work she has done to get to where she is now.
