After the release of the intoxicating hit single, “Call Me Maybe,” Canadian Idol contestant Carly Rae Jepsen quickly became a pop sensation. “Call Me Maybe” was in the top 40 hits worldwide and she has sold over five million copies in the US alone.
Her career did not stop there.
Jepsen’s new album, “Kiss,” is equally as bubbly and fun to listen to. Released Sept. 18, “Kiss” was listed as number 40 in the top 100 albums. She is slowly making her way to the top around the world as well. Jepsen’s newer single, “This Kiss,” is almost better than “Call Me Maybe.” It captures the upbeat, 80s pop sound with a touch of modern techno. This, amongst other memorable songs like “Curiosity,” truly makes “Kiss” a wonderful album.
Every song has her unique, feel-good sound and she does a great job of steering clear of the trashy lyrics heard in today’s music. Why is everyone so down on her? She is making good music, and she is not trying to be a something she is not. She hasn’t been involved in any outrageous scandals, and her music is friendly to all ages, so why hate her?
Her music is fun and charming, and it is easy to see how she was able to become so popular. Jepsen’s songs are clean and original, which is a refreshing alternative to the mainstream pop music of today. Of course, if you are not a pop fan, it is understandable that she may not be your cup o’ tea, but for music lovers it is hard to believe that you could not find these tunes catchy.
Whether she is loved or hated, “Call Me Maybe” has been stuck in the heads of millions. I know that I can’t help myself but sing and dance whenever I hear one of Jepsen’s songs on my radio.
