It’s July 2012 at Poms camp and 250 girls are sitting inside waiting for a special announcement.
The night before, the oldest girls from each team tried out for Spirit of America. All 70 of them formed teams of three and worked their hardest. They had a routine to learn within two mornings before performing in front of the judges.
Now it’s time to see who the four winners are.
Congratulations to juniors Kellye Davenport, Maura Jones, Sarah Murray, and Rachel Halter on their accomplishment. They will be performing at this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and are now a part of 700 of the best dancers in the country that will be performing on NBC.
They are currently in New York City and will be staying for week.
During their flight the girls were very excited and ready to show New York what they’re made of.
“I was relieved and excited,” said Davenport. Even though she also won last year, she was not able to go to New York to perform.
“It’s so cool that we get to be here” said Jones. She did not expect to win this year and is definitely excited for the event.
Everyone has been working hard and rehearsing almost every day since they got to the city and everything is finally coming together. In their down time, they got to enjoy sightseeing before they prepared for their appearance on national television .
Last night they did their NBC rehearsal at Herald Square where they performed in front of all the lights and cameras. Many people gathered around to see what was going on and there was even paparazzi.
“What are you here for?” “Who are you?” “Where are you from?” “Good luck!” are the constant comments they heard that night. The parade hasn’t even started yet and it looks like we already have some new celebrities!
The Varsity Spirit of America Dance Team will be opening the show and will be walking through the parade alongside Santa after their big performance.
Watch The 86th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon on NBC.
