On April 4, a small group of students gathered with advisor Shannon Romanksi-Philips to prepare for an “epic” obstacle course on Sun., May 19 at Donley’s Wild West Town. The course is planning to feature “mud, hay, tires, slides, and a lot of more fun stuff,” according to Philips.
Last year, Psych Club conducted the Minds in Motion 5K race raising awareness for mental health in a “fun and healthy way,” said Romanski-Philips. This event was open to the entire community for all ages and took place at Leggee Elementary School on the Harmony Road campus. A sum of $3,000 was raised and donated to Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center.
Since the FOR (Friends of Rachel) Club has grown and expanded, the students and Romanski-Philips wanted to find a way to help the school. The idea for an obstacle course instead of a race came about since “mud runs and obstacle courses are in right now, and it is a new thing that some of the students have never participated in,” said Romanksi-Philips.
“We want to use the money raised to help the school and check with the PBIS team to see where money can be donated,” said Romanski-Philips.
At the moment, the club is racing to find sponsors for prizes and food, get participation, network, and focus on the course itself.
Students, faculty, parents, and other people in the community can register for this event on a paper form or online at the school web store once everything is finalized.
“I am really excited and nervous, and I want this to be awesome,” said Romanski-Philips.
