It was clear from the beginning.  In Huntley’s 10-0 victory over Woodstock North, Eric Luecht had the edge.

In his five innings of work, Luecht gave up no runs with just one hit and one walk.  He had a no-hitter through four innings, but lost it to a weak ground ball that ended up being an infield single.

“Every start he gets better and better,” said Huntley coach Andy Jakubowski.  “I thought he did a tremendous job today.  We’re really happy with his performance.”

Despite a dominating pitching performance, Huntley’s offensive game was not as strong as the team’s previous games.  Catcher Mark Skonieczny had a solo home run and left fielder Jake Wagner had a double, but no other Huntley player had an extra base hit.  A majority of the Huntley offensive production came off of North’s errors.

“I thought today our offensive approach was probably the weakest of the year,” said Jakubowski.  “We need to do a better job hitting.”

But things could definitely be worse for Huntley.  Any offense that can amass ten runs has skill, even if those runs mostly came off of errors.  The extreme cold also likely affected the Huntley offense.

“It was a tough day to play today,” said Jakubowski.  “We’ll attribute [our offensive struggles] to their pitching and the weather as well.”

The victory over North gives the undefeated Huntley team its tenth win in a row.  So far, the Red Raiders have been a powerhouse and the team has a chance to make a postseason run.

Huntley’s next game will be against Grayslake North next Tuesday.
