Friday night, junior Eric Mooney lead his team to a victory 57-14 win against Dundee Crown.

Within just the first quarter, Mooney himself ran in three touchdowns. The first touchdown was only about three minutes into the game.

Mooney rushed 75 yards of the total 449 yards covered by Huntley.

Going into the game, Huntley had a record of 1-1. They defeated Algonquin’s Jacobs in the first game of the season but fell short against Crystal Lake’s Prairie Ridge last week with a score of 31-20.

“I think we played disciplined football against DC and everyone did their jobs,” linebacker Tyler Szekely said. “While against Prairie Ridge we played sloppy and made too many mistakes.”

Past the sea of red football players and the game in progress was Huntley’s Raider Nation. Something was new about Raider Nation.

The entire student section was wearing gold.

Gold is the ribbon color for Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.  Huntley High School, along with other schools in the area, have been wearing gold to support Cal’s Angels.

Cal’s Angels is a foundation that is based in St. Charles, Illinois. Tom and Stacy Sutter lost their son, Cal, to Leukemia and began this foundation to grant wishes or financially help families with kids fighting cancer.

“I really like how it turned out,” junior Jewel Tibar said. “Everyone bought the shirts and I was so surprised.”

The proceeds from the shirts helped go toward Cal’s Angels.

Friday night was not just a win for Huntley High School. It was also a win for Cal’s Angels and the children fighting cancer whose wishes can now come true.

Next week, Huntley will be playing away against Hampshire, who has an overall record of 2-1.

“I feel excited about the Hampshire game and we are preparing to do the same thing as against DC,” Szekely said.
