The jokes and the laughter just kept on coming the night of March 13 in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets were paid for and seats were filled as Mr. HHS took away the night. Contestants performed, showed off their body, and proved themselves worthy for the Mr. HHS title, but there could be only one winner.
Junior Colin Worden was named People’s Choice, Question Master, and Mr. HHS this evening. Worden won two free Prom tickets and a free tuxedo rental from Men’s Warehouse. The first runner-up was senior Alex Stevens. Stevens won a free tuxedo rental from Men’s Warehouse. Other awards included Most Spirited and Most Talented which both went to senior Mark Skonieczny.
“I’m on top of the world,” said Worden. “I’m going to parade [my award] around for everyone to see or hear.”
The beginning dance was choreographed to the Backstreet Boys “Bye Bye Bye.” The choreographers for the group dance were Amana Czarnota, Rachel Halter, and Victoria Oliveira.
Tonight’s ticket sales were a fundraiser to raise money for Pennies for Peyton, which is a fundraiser to donate money to help a little girl with cancer.
The judges for tonight’s event were the staff from Huntley High School including: Becca Dawson, Cathie Livengood, Dick Livengood, Patrick Odarczenko, Shelly Kish, Danyce Saul, Karen Miller, and Chris Duncan. They judged the contestants on their participation in the group dance, swimwear, the answer to the trivia question, opinion question, and why they deserved to be Mr. HHS. Other events included the talent portion, formal wear, and spirit wear.
Tonight’s contestants were juniors Darek Makowski, Matt Clemetsen, Colin Worden, and Spencer Bingham. Senior contestants were Mitch Mollica, Alex Stevens, Mark Skonieczny, and Peter Campbell.
The winning talent portion was an interpretive dance by Skonieczny which included songs like “Thriller”, “Jump on it”, “London Bridge”, “Soulja Boy”, and “Grease Lightening.”
Mr. HHS was escorted by Miss Huntley’s Brooke Romero in the formal wear event of this evening. Other escorts included Savannah Henn, Samantha Morin, Sasha Moreno, Ashley Savage, Kora Rea, Jordan Pasco, and Emily Marrazzo.
The talent events of this evening including two stand-up comedies by Makowski and Campbell. Clemetsen played “Pachabel’s Cannon in D” on the marimba. Mollica played french horn in a quartet which played the theme song to “Games of Thrones.” Mr. HHS read comedic poetry entitled “Rebok”, “My life,” and “Savings.” Stevens played the ukulele in a trio, and Bingham and partner Marrazzo did an interpretive song ‘Huntley-styled’ to Rent’s “Over the Moon.”
When Bingham came on stage for the swimsuit portion he displayed many seashells glued to his body. His comment, “I’m the beach.”
Overall, Mr. HHS was a success in which the Huntley community came together to celebrate unity and to help a little girl with cancer.
