Former WWE wrestler CM Punk will write the new Thor Annual (February Thor Annual #1)

Former WWE wrestler Phil Brooks, also known as CM Punk will be teaming up with Marvel Comics and artist Rob Guillory to write THOR ANNUAL #1 in February.  Brooks is well known among WWE fans as a comic book fanatic, who frequently visits comic shops in his hometown of Chicago and around the country as well.  Brooks has been trying to get a comic with Marvel for quite some time, even before he quit wrestling.

Since his comic is an annual it only comes out once a year, so it seems that this might be a one time thing for CM Punk.  Brooks has never written a comic before, but he has done his fair share of reading.

“Editor Jon Moisan forwarded me a bunch of scripts that I can look at,” said Brooks in an interview with Marvel.com. ‘Specifically, he’s sending me Thor books.”

Brooks says that he is fully prepared to fail, but is definitely confident about the opportunity.  Brooks also has hopes of writing a Punisher story that he has been thinking about since 2011, so hopefully there is more in store for the former WWE Champion.

Marvel Now, All New Captain America

A lot has happened to Captain America recently. For one thing, he has lost his superhuman ability, forcing him to give up his role as Captain America and pass it on to a worthy successor. That successor just so happens to be Cap’s best friend and crime fighting partner Sam Wilson, or Falcon..

During an epic battle Captain America had his super serum sucked from his body by The Iron Nail, thus causing him to lose his superhuman ability and rapidly age into an old man.  Now severely limited to what he can do, Steve Rogers (Captain America) has to chose a new successor, and stay on a headset with the new Cap, Sam Wilson.

This is a quite similar scenario to the 1999-2000 Television show “Batman Beyond,” where an aged Bruce Wayne guides a young protegee through the role of being Batman.

The new Captain America, Sam Wilson has been fighting alongside Captain America since the 1970s, and is like a brother to Steve Rogers, but hardly a sidekick.  Falcon uses a wingsuit to fly around, and will most certainly give a new look to the title of Captain America.

It is also worth noting that Sam Wilson is African American, which might stir up some controversy. However, he has been in Captain America comics for quite some time, so it comes as no surprise to comic readers.

This is not the first time someone other than Steve Rogers has taken up the mantle of Captain America. Steve Rogers’ childhood friend Bucky Barnes, also known as The Winter Soldier took up the responsibilities after Captain America died a few years ago.  This is however, the first time Captain America has chosen his successor.

ALL-NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 by Rick Remender and Stuart Immonen, will be available on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Go get it while it’s available, and go read comics!
