It is the last race of the night and rain is pouring down, the 400 meter relay is the last race of the night. The final gun-shot of the night is fired. Minutes later Huntley wins the 400 meter relay race.
Thursday night was an ideal night to be a member of the Huntley girls track and field team. After seven years of being runners up, the Huntley girls track and field team managed to win the conference meet.
The members of the team performed remarkably well within the conference meet and will continue the hard work next Thursday at sectionals.
On Thursday night, senior Macy Tramblay led the team in triple jump, 100 high hurdles, and the 400 meter relay. The 400 meter relay included included: seniors Macy Tramblay and Tess Miller, junior Alyssa Bushman, and sophomore Kate Mitchell. Freshman Cassidy Lackovic was conference champion in the 100 meter sprint and Miller took first in the 400 meter sprint.
“It was a great win against a strong team, especially after seven years of hard work and dedication. You guys finally did it,” said Manager, Stephanie Nesheiwat.
The Huntley girls track and field coaches were excited beyond control when they had the honor of informing the team that their hard work and dedication had finally paid off.
Throughout the season, Huntley has spent a large amount of time developing the track and field program, in which has contributed to the team’s success throughout the season. The team has had the capability to double-score in every meet of the season, with much assistance from the freshmen teammates.
Additionally on Thursday night, senior Delaney Lyman took second place in the Pole Vault with a height of 10-6, in which greatly contributed to the Raiders victory. Mitchell took second place in the 800 meter race, beating Jacobs team member Lauren Van Vlierbergen.
All Huntley athletes made All-Conference in each event.
