Huntley High School’s musical rendition of Marry Poppins opening show took place on Sept. 24, 26, and 27 in the HHS PAC. The cast of 33 people was accompanied by a live orchestra. The cast, ranging from third graders to sophomores, were vocally trained for the many musical numbers. Bert, played by sophomore Jacob Lopez, played a big role in the musical as a chimney sweeper.
During the musical, a wide assortment of stunts and different colored lights were performed and provided. Marry Poppins, played by Marisa Bowman, was suspended in the air.
Suspended only by ropes, Bowman did a fantastic job controlling her actions. Also suspended in the air were the children and Bert. Bert, also suspended, walked upside down on the ceiling.
This musical was directed by Nancy Cross, Tom George, and Steve Sturm.
“I really liked working with Mr.Sturm for the first time” said sophomore Anna Skala, who played Miss Andrew, the main antagonist.
Skala wishes that more people at the high school would go to see their shows more often. “We put a lot of work and effort into them,” said Skala.
Marisa Bowman, who plays Mary Poppins, said her favorite part of making this musical is being with the cast. “I’d like to thank everyone who made it happen,” said Bowman. “Anything can happen!”
