The Sadie Hawkins turnabout Winter Dance, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 13, has been cancelled and postponed to a later date. An email from Deb Gustafson was sent out on Feb. 12 to notify students that the cancellation is due to “unfortunate circumstances that are in no way of a safety concern.”
Student Council was informed that there would be an issue with holding the dance in the Central Gym, and that it was too short of a notice to transfer the dance into the East gym, given that it was the day before the dance and special arrangements had to be made to hold it in the East Gym.
According to STUCO adviser Rebecca Davidson, their goal now is to make those special arrangements so a dance in the East Gym will be made possible. They want to ensure the students that the dance must go on.
“We are looking into it right now,” said Daivdson. “We will do everything in our power to make this dance happen as soon as possible.”
This last-minute notice proved to be inconvenient for everyone involved, from the STUCO members to the attendees.
“I an disappointed that we had to cancel for now,” said Davidson. “We definitely would have informed people sooner if we could have. I am sorry for the inconvenience to everyone.”
At this time they do not have a specific date for the reschedule. Though that date still remains undetermined, students who have already purchased tickets online can keep them until the rescheduled date. They even have the option of refunding the tickets all together if they just don’t want to go anymore.
“It’s a let down,” said STUCO member Jaclyn Smitendorf. “The few people who were going might be discouraged to attend the rescheduled dance or any other ones in the future.”
